Beautiful natural pools

West Coast

Details and description

The west coast of Sant’Antioco has some lovely coves with large flat rocks and emerald coloured water. The sea forms wonderful natural pools, creating a very picturesque sight.

As you walk through the Mediterranean scrub, you will be surrounded by the delightful scent of helichrysum;these paths will take you to some spectacular places, particularly striking for their natural beauty.

One of the most beautiful coves on the island is Cala Grotta, famous for its large cave cut into the rocky cliff, and for its emerald green water that gradually deepens in colour, taking on an intense blue as it reaches the open sea.

Around the cave, you’ll find some excellent spots for diving into the water and admiring the wonders of the seabed.

There’s another very special place just short distance away, called Cala della Signora; this little rocky inlet is known for its flat-shaped lava formations that give it an almost lunar appearance. The sea here is crystal clear in shades of emerald, and forms a natural swimming pool that could almost have been hollowed out by man.

You get the most vivid impression of these places if you arrive by sea: you can do this by renting a dinghy, a canoe or a SUP. This allows you to enjoy this beautiful coastline to the full.
