How to get to Sant’Antioco

The airport of Cagliari, distant barely 80 km from Sant’Antioco, is connected with many national and international destinations, through scheduled flights and charter flights.

From the airport it’s possible to reach our island through a rental car, private transfers, trains and public buses.

By boat
Sardinia can be reached all year round through boats and ferry-boats from the rest of Italy, France, Corsica and Spain.
The main shipping companies are Tirrenia, Moby, Sardinia Ferries and Grimaldi, arriving in Cagliari, recommended destination to reach Sant’Antioco, but also Olbia, Porto Torres, Arbatax and Golfo Aranci.
The main links between the port of Cagliari and the Italian peninsula are:
- The route Civitavecchia – Cagliari: available everyday, with departure in the late afternoon and arrival in the morning on the Island. Possible stop in the port of Arbatax twice a week.
- The route Napoli – Cagliari: available twice a week, the ferry-boats leaves in the late afternoon and arrives in Cagliari the next morning.
- The route Palermo – Cagliari: available once a week, with departure in the evening from Palermo.
Extremely convenient is the route Livorno – Olbia, both daytime and evening. In just 6-8 hours you arrive in North Sardinia.

From the port of Cagliari, the train and bus stations of the city are reachable in a short time, but you can also use rental cars or private transfers.

Trains
From the airport of Cagliari – Elmas you can easily reach by foot the train station of “Elmas Aeroporto”, from which a train to Carbonia Serbariu passes every hour (from around 5 a.m. to 9 p.m). The departure schedules are subject to variation and you can consult them on the website https://www.trenitalia.com/ or at the train station. You can buy the ticket at the train station or on the Trenitalia website.
From the train station of Elmas Aeroport, you have to take the train to Carbonia Serbariu, verifying if it’s necessary a train change at the stop of Villamassargia-Domusnovas. The Trenitalia staff will help you for any doubt.
You will arrive after about 1 hour and you can reach Sant’Antioco with a public bus from the intermodal centre. For more information, please read the bus section.

Bus
The Azienda Regionale Sarda Trasporti (ARST) manages the bus transports in the whole Sardinia. On their website http://www.arstspa.info/a.html, it is possible, using the search bar, to write “Carbonia Centrointermodale” as a place of departure and as destination “Sant’Antioco Piazza Repubblica” and the desired departure time.
The bus ride usually takes just over half an hour and arrives in the centre of Sant’Antioco. From the point of arrival, you can cross via XXIV Maggio and you will find on your right the tourist Infopoint, properly signalled.
