If you want to get to the heart of local seafaring traditions, you must visit MuMa, the Museo del Mare e dei Maestri d'Ascia. A little gem that guards the knowledge and secrets of naval carpentry, with a focus on protecting the island's precious natural habitats. The MuMA is in fact also the home of the CEAS of Sant'Antioco, the Centre for Environmental Education for Sustainability. Through a visit to the museum, you will be able to get closer to the world of carpentry and of the Shipwrights who, as the real protagonists within the shipyards, unleash their skill in choosing the wood, shaping and adapting the chosen stump to the shapes of the boats, true works of art in their uniqueness of production. You can be a direct witness yourself to the tradition that still survives today in small family-run businesses, dedicated to the construction of flat-bottomed boats, such as 'is cius' used for fishing in the lagoon, as well as fishing boats and lateen-sailed vessels. Once you have visited the museum, you can enjoy your walk along the Lungomare with an even greater awareness of the value and history behind these places and of the high professionalism of those who build the boats floating on the Sant'Antioco Lagoon.
