Bread

Authentic doughs

Bread is a fundamental food in the Sardinian tradition and, even in Sant'Antioco, it is produced in different forms and numerous varieties. Wake up early one morning, if you feel like it, and stroll through the streets of the centre. Step by step, you will perceive an inviting smell of freshly baked bread pervading the air and stimulating your taste buds. A sensation that will immediately make you feel in complete harmony with the soul of the city. Among the traditional local products, we cannot forget 'su Coccoi', an artisanal bread made from durum wheat semolina and painstakingly decorated with scissors. The crust is crunchy, the inside is soft and the taste unmistakable. A curiosity: on the occasion of the Feast of St Antiochus Martyr, a special coccoi is prepared by expert hands, 'su coccoi de su santu', a precious ritual bread, decorated with flowers and spring motifs, to be given as an offering to the Patron Saint of Sardinia. Do you want to get to know a true speciality of our tradition? Then you cannot leave without tasting 'su pani cun tamatiga', bread with tomato. A stuffed bread prepared with simple and genuine products: durum wheat semolina and flour, ripe tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, fresh basil and garlic. Enjoyed on cool summer evenings, with the wonderful scent of freshly picked tomatoes and basil, it is simply exquisite. A product that encapsulates the simplicity and intense flavour of the local peasant cuisine, an authentic delicacy.
