The Macori Reef: the Mangiabarche Lighthouse

The infinite horizon

Gaze at the Island of San Pietro and the striking Mangiabarche Lighthouse from the Nido dei Passeri, a long cliff about 20 metres high jutting out into the sea. From the top of this imposing cliff you will admire the line of the sea stretching to infinity, where the sun slowly disappears at sunset, giving you a sky of indescribable colours. Near the cliff, a few hundred metres from the coast, you will notice the Mangiabarche Lighthouse, activated in 1935 to help sailors. In fact, the cliff owes its name to the unfortunate boats that ran aground on the rocks when the libeccio sea was stormy. The lighthouse stands on a rock, Punta Mangiabarche, where the waves break on windy days, creating an extremely picturesque spectacle.
