Archaeological Museum 'Ferruccio Barreca' - MAB

A journey through history

If you want to turn the pages of history and discover the customs and traditions of the most ancient civilisations that populated our land, you absolutely cannot miss the MAB Archaeological Museum Ferruccio Barreca. One of Italy's most important museums, especially for the vastness and variety of material relating to the Phoenician and Punic civilisations. A treasure chest that houses exclusively artefacts found on the Island of Sant'Antioco, through which the tale of the millennial history of the territory will project you into the ancient Mediterranean, in an interweaving of peoples and cultures.
The oldest finds date back to the first peopling of the island in the late Neolithic period and the vitality of the place during the golden age of Sardinian history, the Nuragic period. There is unique evidence of the oldest Phoenician urban centre in Sardinia, founded between the late 9th and early 8th century B.C., and its important trade contacts with much of the Mediterranean. There is no shortage of interactive experiences such as virtual reality that will take you on a real journey back in time. A very rich section devoted to the Punic period takes us back to the otherworld and the beliefs connected with it, made up of deities, ritual gestures, cultural influences and collective memories. A separate section is dedicated to the Tophet with a reconstruction of the thousands of urns found at this site.
